Pre-Recruitment Education Project

Peaceful Gatherings informs high school and college students about the many alternatives to enlisting in the military, including alternative National Service, college scholarship opportunities and regional private and public sector employment options and services.

Peaceful Gatherings has set up information tables at East High in Corning, NY, West High in Painted Post, and at Corning Community College.

We need additional volunteers to counter the high-pressure sales pitch of military recruiters in our high schools. We want our young men and women to make important decisions about the future with informed minds. We intend to make every effort to ensure that young people are given the chance to know what they are committing to before they sign up.

We want our young people to know they can get money for college, job training, leadership skills and the experience of a lifetime through alternative National Service in AmeriCorps and the Peace Corps. We want to let kids know about the many sources of financial aid for college or vocational training. We want them to understand that working to make us a better, stronger nation does not have to include military service.

Please help us make sure that our student population is exposed to a balanced message about U.S. Military service. We need caring, articulate volunteers to make this ongoing outreach & education initiative a success.
